Returning to on-site learning will happen in stages and will be different for schools in metropolitan Melbourne and schools in rural and regional Victoria.

If your child is in Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) and Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) they can go on-site for essential assessments during the first week of Term 4 (5 to 9 October). This includes the General Achievement Test (GAT) on Wednesday 7 October.

The following changes remain subject to the advice of the Victorian Chief Health Officer.

Schools in metropolitan Melbourne

5–9 October (first week of Term 4)

Children will still learn from home.

Children of permitted workers and vulnerable children can continue going to on-site supervision.

12–16 October (second week of Term 4)

Children and young people in the following grades and years will return to on-site learning.

  • Prep to Year 7
  • Year 11 and 12 and students, and Year 10 students enrolled in a VCE or VCAL program
  • children in specialist schools. If your child continues to learn from home, their school can give them learning materials to use.

Your child's school may stagger the return of year levels during that week. If they do, they will tell you about this.

If your child is in years 8 to 10, they will continue with remote and flexible learning. There will be exceptions for vulnerable children and children of permitted workers, who will continue to be able to attend on-site.

26 October (fourth week of Term 4)

Children in years 8 to 10 will return to on-site schooling.
