Victorian Education Excellence Awards nominations are now open

This year's awards include two new categories for teachers in the first five years of their career. Nominations close 7 June

Nominations for the 2021 Victorian Education Excellence Awards are now open.

Primary and secondary school teachers, principals, business managers, education support teams and Koorie educators are encouraged to nominate themselves or others, by Monday 7 June.

Victorian Education Excellence Awards

Now in its 20th year, the Victorian Education Excellence Awards recognise school staff for outstanding dedication and achievement in government school education.

Along with celebrating the achievements of Victoria's outstanding educators, the awards ceremony in October will also give educators the chance to network with colleagues and share excellence in education practice.

Recognising the value that new teachers bring to the profession, this year's awards include new categories for primary and secondary teachers in the first five years of their career.

The new categories complement Excellence in Teacher Education reforms supporting early career teachers to become excellent teachers and leaders, by providing further support for professional development.

Winners of each category will be awarded professional learning grants of up to $25,000 to invest in ongoing professional development. They will also be eligible for the Lindsay Thompson Award for Excellence in Education, which is awarded to the winner of an award category whose contribution to Victorian government school education is judged to be the most outstanding. The recipient will receive an additional professional learning grant of $20,000.

A panel of judges will select winners through a thorough application, shortlisting and interview process. Finalists will be announced in September.

A word from last year's Outstanding Primary Teacher Award winner

Last year's Outstanding Primary Teacher Award winner, Averil Mitchell, encouraged teachers to nominate. Averil was recognised for her work leading student wellbeing, engagement and inclusion programs at Hampton Park Primary School.

'Nominating staff members is an excellent opportunity to recognise, celebrate and showcase the wonderful work happening within school communities each and every day to support students to achieve their full potential,' Averil said.
