Register your interest in new courses for learning specialists

Access two new courses on instructional leadership and professional observation for professional learning. Register by 2 March 2022

Two free courses are now available for learning specialists looking to expand their knowledge, skills and capabilities.

These 2 new courses are part of the Professional Learning Suite for learning specialists and co-designed by the department and Cognition Education Australia:

  • Leading from the middle
  • Professional observations for professional learning.

Course delivery will be subject to COVIDSafe settings at the time.

Leading from the middle  

This course explores the roles and responsibilities of learning specialists as instructional leaders. It will build knowledge, skills, and capabilities to:

  • lead the implementation of whole-school improvement strategies related to curriculum assessment, planning, and delivery 
  • provide guidance about the content, processes, and strategies that shape individual and school professional learning
  • develop a shared view of highly effective teacher practices across schools and classrooms.

This interactive and hands-on blended learning course is delivered over 10 weeks. It includes:

  • 5 online self-paced modules through Canvas (5 hours in total)
  • 4 online facilitated workshops through Webex (5 hours in total)
  • 1 expert panel webinar (one hour, optional)
  • 1 full-day workshop (online)

The workshops will not be recorded.

Places are limited. Aspiring learning specialists are encouraged to express interest and will be notified if a place is available.

Course dates are Monday 7 March 2022 to Friday 17 June 2022. Register your interest in attending Leading from the middle professional learning before Wednesday 2 March 2022.

Professional observations for professional learning

This course explores the roles and responsibilities of learning specialists as instructional leaders, and further develops knowledge and skills needed to:

  • demonstrate high-level expertise in teaching and learning practice
  • model, observe, and reflect on teaching practice
  • observe teaching practice and provide evidence-based feedback, professional learning and peer collaboration.

This interactive and hands-on blended learning course is delivered over 10 weeks. It includes:

  • 5 online self-paced modules through Canvas (5 hours in total)
  • 4 online facilitated workshops through Webex (5 hours in total)
  • one expert panel webinar (one hour, optional)
  • one full-day workshop (face-to-face and online option)

The workshops will not be recorded.

Places are limited. Aspiring learning specialists are encouraged to express interest and will be notified if a place is available.

Course dates are Monday 21 March 2022 to Friday 22 July 2022. Register your interest in attending Professional observations for professional learning by Wednesday 2 March 2022.
