Register now to access two on-demand presentations from the Victorian Deaf Education Institute

The Victorian Deaf Education Institute (VDEI) has launched two new on-demand presentations that teachers can access to learn about current research and leading professional practice in the field.

Presentations will be available  online, via a registration system, so that participants can access the presentations at a time that suits them.

Learning to read: strategies for children who are deaf or hard of hearing

In this presentation, Dr Amy Lederberg, international expert in literacy and deafness, explores the skills that underpin how children learn to read. Dr Lederberg will also provide advice on how to improve understanding and application of reading theory when teaching young children who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH).

Dr Lederberg also gives an overview of Foundations for Literacy, an early literacy intervention program for children who are DHH with access to spoken language, with or without sign.

Participants who successfully complete the presentation will receive a certificate noting three hours of professional learning. The presentation can be accessed for four weeks from registration, and costs $50.

Strengthening educational outcomes of children who are deaf or hard of hearing

This three-part presentation from Dr Christine Yoshinaga-Itano, international expert in audiology, will explore the essential factors for supporting early intervention outcomes in children who are DHH.

Participants who successfully complete this presentation will receive a certificate noting six hours of professional learning.

The presentations can be accessed for eight weeks from registration, and cost a total of $100.

Teachers can discuss support to cover costs with their schools.
