Lessons from remote and flexible learning

Read new reports to learn more about Victoria's experience of remote and flexible learning in Term 2

Teachers can now access three reports commissioned by the Victorian Government to better understand the Term 2 remote learning experience of Victorian schools, students and parents and carers.

The three reports commissioned by the Government were prepared to support discussion at a proposed education summit, which has been postponed due to the return to remote and flexible learning in Term 3.

The three reports are:

  • an independent analysis of the evidence available to the Department about the experience of remote and flexible learning in Victorian schools
  • a focus group study drawing on the perspectives of parents, students, teachers and school leaders from government and non-government schools.
  • a report on the experience of some of the most disadvantaged and at-risk students in Victoria.

Combined, the reports were informed by more than 3600 submissions from teachers, parents, carers, students and education experts as part of a community consultation process. Surveys, detailed focus groups, stakeholder consultations and other data have also informed the findings.

Applying lessons learned

Over the course of Term 3, schools have built on the lessons learned from the Term 2 remote learning experience, to improve wellbeing, engagement and learning outcomes for students.

The Department has also incorporated key lessons from these reports to improve its support for remote and flexible learning in Term 3.

This includes:

  • investment in digital access for schools and students in need
  • expanded health and wellbeing supports, and professional development
  • guidance and resources for teachers to refine their remote learning practices.

A summary of the key findings across the three reports, along with actions the Government has already taken in response, is available.
