About the National Music Teacher Mentoring Program
Developed by the late Richard Gill (AO) in partnership with the Australian Youth Orchestra, the program pairs experienced music educators with generalist primary school teachers to build their skills and confidence in teaching music.
Funding is available to support experienced primary music teachers to participate as mentors to support generalist primary teachers.
The funding also covers the cost of casual relief teaching (CRT) for mentors to support up to two mentees per school.
What it means to be a mentor
Music mentors will have the opportunity to develop their mentoring skills with up to two generalist primary school teachers to strengthen their confidence and skills to teach music to Prep to Grade 2 students.
Subject to an expression of interest, mentors will deliver their mentoring program in a nearby government primary school if partnerships are available.
Mentoring takes place for about 16 weeks in Term 2 and Term 3, 2021. Partnerships can continue into early Term 4 by agreement if required.
What it means to be a mentee
Mentees will receive personalised mentoring in their own classroom from an experienced music teacher from a neighbouring or partner school.
Past mentees have reported an increase in their music skills, confidence and student engagement after participating in this program.
How to apply
Teachers can complete an expression of interest to participate as mentors or mentees.
